Hilla Keren, LCSW-C
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-C) with over 15 years of
experience in individual, couples, group, and family therapy. In addition to a
thriving private therapy practice, I conduct workshops offering practical,
compassionate approaches to life's daily challenges: reconciling money and emotions,
developing effective parenting skills, preventing school violence, and communicating
effectively. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of
Maryland and a Master's of Social Work from UM's School of Social Work. I am a member
of the National Association of Social Workers and the American Academy of
Psycho-therapists. Prior to establishing my private practice, I served as the Clinical
Director of the Women's Growth Center in Pikesville, MD. My articles on
psychotherapeutic practice have appeared in Voices, the Journal of the American Academy
of Psychotherapists.
The trusting relationships we build
empower each client to use the tools he/she learns in sessions,
and become his/her own best therapist. I believe that we all were born with everything we need to heal and grow
spiritually, emotionally, and psychologically. There are times in a person's
life when he/she experiences stress, depression, lack of motivation, or
confusion. In my own life I have experienced multiple losses that left
me devastated, discouraged about my future, and feeling stuck. I found
the psychotherapy process to be extremely helpful in the process of healing
and even more so, empowered me to reach into my own resources of self
healing and personal growth. The process of healing can be painful
and difficult at times. It takes serious commitment and courage. Psychotherapy is a healing process which
involves a relationship between the client and therapist. Together the
client and therapist create a safe place for change and growth. Trust,
respect, confidentiality, and honesty are the basis of building an environment
that provides the possibility for change and healing to take place. There are many excellent and experienced
professional therapists. Because the nature of psychotherapy relies on
the relationship between the client and therapist, it is important that
the client and therapist are a good fit for each other. An initial consultation
provides you with an opportunity to experience the process of psychotherapy
as well as the match between yourself and the therapist. Sometimes it
takes more than one session to determine if you have a good match.
